Owain Arthur, best known for his performance in A Confession, will play Prince Durin IV opposite Sophia Nomvete’s Princess Disa in Prime Video’s forthcoming series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Owain Arthur is most known for playing Francis Henshall in The National Theatre’s production of One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theater Royal Haymarket, where he understudied James Corden. His stage credits include The History Boys (NT), Romeo and Juliet (Royal Shakespeare Company), The Comedy of Errors (Royal Exchange), and Nicholas Hytner’s Birdsong (Comedy Theater).
A Confession, London Kills, Hard Sun, Hinterland, Babylon, Casualty, Cei Bach, New Tricks, and The Palace are among the TV productions in which the Irish actor has featured. He has also appeared in a number of films, including White Island, The Patrol, Mr. Nice, Eldra, Higher Grounds, and Disney’s upcoming The One and Only Ivan.
Owain Arthur apparently remarked on his participation in the next series in a 2022 Comic-Con interview, stating,
“It was one of those situations where I was cast as Durin and got to play a dwarf and thought, ‘Yes! I’m allowed to wear prostheses. I get to wear a wig, carry a beard, and dress up in all these fantastic outfits.’ And, to be honest, I’ve been fairly critical of it the bulk of the time.”
He continued,
“I genuinely adored it, and it was an honor to be allowed to put it on – as uncomfortable and weary as it was.”

Durin IV was the fourth king of the name Durin. Many individuals, like the previous three, think he is the reincarnation of Durin I due to their striking resemblance. He was seen wearing the power ring given to his predecessor Durin III, and he would most likely rule during the War of the Last Alliance. He is the ruler of Khazad-dûm, a prosperous subterranean realm.
According to reports, Owain Arthur’s Durin IV was presented, saying:
“Durin III, the monarch of Khazad-dûm and one of the first bearers of the Dwarven Rings of Power, is their father. These Khazad-dûm Dwarves, or Moria as it is subsequently called, play a significant role in numerous critical wars in JRR Tolkien’s Second Age that The Rings of Power is expected to depict, notably the defeat of the Dark Lord Sauron at the conclusion of the Second Age.”
When questioned about his dwarven depiction and feelings on being a part of the legendary tale in an interview with CBS, Arthur stated that it has been nothing short of “an honor.”
When asked about his looks, he said,
“My beard is in approximately 16 parts, and you sort of like, ‘Oh, there he is!’ throughout the different phases of the creation. [laughing] It wasn’t until the final few cones, exactly here [on the cheekbones], that I realized, ‘There he is!’ You’re off to work!’”
