Robbie Coltrane An Iconic Actor Passed Away At The Age Of 72

On Friday, October 14, 2022, the late Robbie Coltrane, who portrayed the popular figure of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter film trilogy, died at the age of 72. He was in the hospital at the time, according to his representative. Robbie Coltrane appeared in each of the eight Harry Potter films. He also starred in the James Bond films GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough, as well as the highly acclaimed television series Cracker, for which he received three BAFTA nominations. According to the actor, he suffered osteoarthritis for many years, which caused him excruciating agony and greatly restricted his mobility. He used a walking stick and a wheelchair in his final years.

Robbie Coltrane described himself as being in “continuous discomfort all day.”

The actor’s struggle with osteoarthritis was first publicized when he was seen in a wheelchair in March 2019. Robbie Coltrane was said to have been in discomfort for years. One of the most frequent types of arthritis is osteoarthritis. It is caused by the breakdown of the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones. Degenerative joint disease is another name for “wear and tear” arthritis.

Genetics, lifestyle, and food may all play a role in this illness. Though osteoarthritis may affect any joint, it usually affects the hands, knees, hips, and spine. The actor said that the disease had significantly harmed him and that he was in agony at all hours of the day while filming Great Expectations and National Treasure. He also said how he was told to reduce weight in order to relieve his agony.

“I’m in agony all day,” Coltrane told the Daily Star.

He continued:

“During an exploratory procedure, doctors found that I had no cartilage left in one of my knees. It’s fully dissolved.”

In 2020, a long-awaited knee operation in the United States provided him with some respite.

He said at the time:

“It was simply awful. “Being able to sleep and being pain-free after the procedure has altered my life.”

Some fans also criticized the healthcare system, claiming that Robbie Coltrane died as a result of inadequate infrastructure and arrangements for individuals with crippling ailments. The actor was scheduled to participate at this year’s Comic-Con in Olympia, London, but canceled owing to health issues.

Coltrane was shown pondering his own time on Earth and the franchise’s influence in an HBO program marking the 20th anniversary of the Harry Potter series.
