Rhys Ifans was born in Haverfordwest, Wales, on July 22, 1967, to Beti-Wyn and Eurwyn Evans. His parents were also educators. Ifans grew up in the Welsh county of Pembrokeshire. Ifans was interested in performing from a young age and supposedly attended acting classes at Theatr Clwyd. He subsequently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
Rhys Ifans began his career in the theater. He experimented with television before moving into cinema, featuring in the comedy shows Spatz, Trial & Retribution, and Screen Two. He gained prominence as Spike in the Julia Roberts-Hugh Grant film Notting Hill, which is generally considered one of the most famous romcoms of all time.
