Mike Hollins A Former Baton Rouge Athlete Got Injured During Virginia Shooting

One of the five victims shot at the University of Virginia on Sunday, November 13, 2022, is a former Baton Rouge High School football player. Mike Hollins, the 2018 Warrick Dunn Award winner as WAFB’s Sportsline Athlete of the Year, was recognized by the University coach as the player. According to reports, three individuals were murdered and two were wounded in the shooting at the University of Virginia. While Mike was one of the survivors, the victims who died were named as D’Sean Perry, Lavel Davis, and Devin Chandler by authorities.

All five victims are members of the University of Virginia football team. Mike Hollins has been shot twice and has had one operation. He will be allowed a few days to heal before undergoing another procedure.

Hollins is a University of Virginia student well recognized for his unbroken athletics record in high school. In 2017, and 2018, he guided his team to back-to-back 3A State Championships. Mike was also named MVP of the 2018 state championship game after running 27 times for 237 yards and four touchdowns. He also has 54 career running yards and 197 receiving yards. In Virginia’s last three games, the young player has also rushed and received 200 yards.

He also received the Sanford B. Prater Football Scholarship for 2022-2023. The college junior’s enthusiasm in sports is immediately discernible from his Twitter account, which is littered with messages about sports, particularly football. Hollins is a running back for the university’s football team, according to the university’s website.

His Instagram handle is now disabled or the account has been deleted.

According to University of Virginia officials, Hollins’ family is on their way from Baton Rouge to Virginia to be with him after the incident. Hollins’ father told The Washington Post that when the athlete was wounded, the bullet miraculously missed his stomach.

Pupils and citizens around the nation who have received the news are hoping for the surviving students’ quick recovery. Mike’s former school’s Associate Athletic Director stated:

“The University Lab school is praying for the complete recovery of our former student-athlete Michael Hollins and his teammate, while also grieving the loss of the three victims killed in yesterday night’s tragedy.” Our hearts go out to Mike, his family, and the relatives of all the victims.”

The University has been temporarily closed as authorities undertake their investigations into the event.
