Lee Lawson Passed Away At The Age Of 80

Lee Lawson, an actress, died on May 22 at the age of 80. Her daughter, Leslie Bova, confirmed the news on Facebook, stating that her mother died of cancer and Covid-19. She said,

“Relax, you wonderful lady. Thank you so much, Mom. R.I.P.”

Marian Hailey-Moss, an actress and friend of hers, paid homage to her on Facebook after her passing, writing,

“In a better world, my down-to-earth, feisty, clever, and attractive buddy Lee Lawson is saying it like it is.” A wonderful actress and a wonderful friend. Lee, I’ll see you there!”

Her funeral arrangements are still being finalized.

Guiding Light’s Lee Lawson character

From 1981 through 1990, Lee Lawson portrayed Bea Reardon in the CBS serial drama Guiding Light. The protagonist was the owner and operator of the 7th Street boarding house. Lawson’s character, Reardon, worked to support herself and her seven children after her husband abandoned her family. After learning that her husband had been killed, she left Springfield to travel the globe, returning the next year before moving to Boston with her youngest son.

Lawson starred in around 50 episodes of the show, which ended in September 2009. Guiding Light is the longest-running series in American television history, having been broadcast on radio and television for over 72 years. Her most recent appearance on the program was in a video message to her daughter Chelsea, portrayed by Kassie DePaiva, to express her support on her wedding day.

She made her debut on the CBS series Love of Life in 1965, followed by ABC’s One Life to Live in 1979. She was born on October 14, 1941, in New York City. Although Lawson is most known for her role in Guiding Light, she has also acted in programs such as Maude, Kojak, and Equal Justice. She later starred in the television film Mason.

Lee also had a tremendous Broadway career. She made her Broadway debut in the 1965 comedy Cactus Flower starring Lauren Bacall, replacing Brenda Vaccaro in the role of Toni. She appeared in Agatha Sue, I Love You, The Plough and the Stars, An American Millionaire, Teibele, and Her Demon, among other films. Lee and Joseph Bova married in 1970. On March 12, 2006, Bova died. Leslie, Chris, and Gaby Lawson survive her, as do her grandkids Gianna, Wilder, and Sterling.
