Although they may sound similar, honorary degrees are not the same as regular college or university degrees. According to Higher Ed Jobs, “an honorary degree recognizes someone who a university committee deems worthy of honoring by offering them a special position in the university community.” Instead of a student, the recipient is usually a public figure who has provided funding or political support to the institution.

To summarize, honorary degrees are frequently listed as awards on a resume rather than under the education category.
