On December 7, TVING released the first stills of Cha Eun-woo for the forthcoming fantasy drama Island on Instagram. The still-cut shows the actor in an unusual character, further enticing fans who are impatiently anticipating the show’s premiere. Cha Eun-woo may be seen wearing a priest outfit, lighting a candle, and staring forward with an earnest stare in the first two stills. However, in the third still cut, the actor is dressed casually. The three stills have significantly heightened the drama’s anticipation.
The forthcoming fantasy drama Island is based on a webtoon of the same name that tells the narrative of a magical island called Jeju. The island where evil lives are full of its own hidden secrets. Following the presence of wicked demons on Jeju Island, people from all walks of life band together to exterminate them. The drama stars Cha Eun-woo, Kim Nam-gil, and Lee Da-hee, whose characters work together to defeat the wicked demons. In the drama, Cha Eun-woo will play a young Excorcist called John or Kang Chan-hyuk.

Cha Eun-woo will play John, who had the privilege of being the youngest exorcist after being called by God. Following his birth, John was adopted by foreigners. However, one day he was told to go to Jeju Island and serve the people who lived there. The character John must finally face the day foretold in a prophecy book. Entangled with the inhabitants of Jeju Island, John is saddled with the job of confronting the island’s monsters.
The TVING stills provide a peek at John’s personality. He is shown lighting a candle, and his graphics seem to be identical to those of the webtoon character. The likeness gives the impression that the character himself has sprung out of the webtoon. John prepares for a ceremony while in a holy aura zone. In the peace and quiet of his surroundings, he is spotted wearing headphones.
In the next shots, he is seen clutching a phone and waiting for someone. However, in the third image, he seems to be a young college student dressed casually. Cha Eun-portrayal woo’s of John, as well as his demeanor as shown in the first few stills, has heightened fans’ interest and expectation of his character. In the drama, Kim Nam-gil and Lee Da-hee will play Van and Won Mi-ho, respectively. While Van has pledged to destroy evil, Won Mi-ho was forced to labor on Jeju Island by her father.
