“It’s not lost on me that my lovely mother and father should have brought me to the Harlem Cultural Festival when I was five years old, and… This is really a beautiful time for me right now. However, this isn’t about me. This is about underprivileged Harlem residents that needed to recuperate from their grief.”

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’s house band, The Roots, is led by Questlove. Fallon, his good old friend, and comrade, expressed his joy and pleasure for the musician. On the TODAY program, he said,

Summer of Soul directed by Questlove wins an Academy Award.

Summer of Soul is a highly praised American documentary film about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. It won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 94th Academy Awards. On March 28, 2022, while clutching his Oscar, the 51-year-old singer remembered the winning moment at the 2022 Oscars, which came only seconds after the tragic and frightening Chris Rock and Will Smith event swept the stage and the night by storm.

Recalling the actual incident, The Roots singer told Jimmy Fallon, the show’s presenter, that he couldn’t comprehend what occurred at that moment because he was soaking in the pleasure of being nominated. He said,

“Of course, you know, that occurred in the midst of a whole [other] scenario with two very dear friends of mine,” he said, referring to Will and Chris. “And it’s strange to claim that I wasn’t aware of it, because—they tell you ahead of time, ‘This is your category!’ So, at that moment, you’re either going to feel anxious—or, like me, you’ve been meditating for the previous two years.”

Jimmy Fallon, the show’s emcee, told the artist and an old friend,

“I can’t tell you—obviously—but everyone who knows you loves and admires you, guy. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.”

Without a doubt, Jimmy Fallon was immensely proud of the singer and made it apparent that he is pleased for him on a personal level as well.
