Kim Young-Gwon was born on February 27, 1990, in Jeonju, South Korea, to Kim Sung-Tae. His astrological sign is Pisces. He is a South Korean by nationality and of Asian heritage.
Kim enrolled at Jeonju University after graduating from high school, where he started his football career with the University team. He won the Futsal League of the Korea Football Association in 2009, becoming the champion and leading scorer. His futsal background was very beneficial to his skills.

  • Kim signed a four-year contract with Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande on July 2, 2012, for a reported sum of $2.5 million. He made his debut for Guangzhou Evergrande in the opening match of the 2012 Chinese FA Cup quarterfinals on August 22. Tianhe Stadium was the site of a 1-0 victory. Three days later, he made his Chinese League debut, drawing 0-0 with Tianjin Teda.
  • Kim’s contract was renewed in 2018 when it expired in 2016. Following the expiration of the contract, he relocated to Japan and signed with Gamba Osaka. He worked with the club until 2018. The player participated in 91 games and scored three goals over six seasons.
