Jacob Hoggard, a former vocalist, and composer for the Canadian band Hedley was convicted guilty of s*xually abusing a lady in Toronto six years ago. On October 20, 2022, he was sentenced to five years in jail by Ontario Superior Court Justice Gillian Roberts. Roberts said during her verdict that she entirely accepts the victim’s story. The Crown recommended a sentence of six to seven years, while the defense wanted three to four years.
According to the defense, he was at minimal risk of committing another crime and may be changed via rehabilitation, according to a psychiatric evaluation. The Crown, on the other hand, contended that Hoggard was dangerous and should be detained. Roberts also considered the victim’s trauma as well as the consequences of the 2016 s*xual assault.
The court further remarked that Hoggard had no criminal record and that he had 52 letters praising his conduct.
